One Full-Body Fado Singer (of a Great Soul)

Produced by José Mário Branco and recorded, between April and May 2018, the new album by Katia Guerreiro is called ‘Sempre’ (Always). The record features the musicians who have been her companions of several journeys and adventures around the world on the common and main mission to represent the Portuguese music, poetry and soul through fado. Pedro de Castro & Luís Guerreiro on the Portuguese guitar, João Mário Veiga & André Ramos on the Fado violas and Francisco Gaspar on the bass guitar.

With ten albums released, hundreds of concerts in the most prestigious national/international stages, festivals in countless countries on several continents, Katia Guerreiro – who has combined the practice of medicine with fado for many years – has also been honoured with important awards in Portugal (Commendation of the Order of Infante D. Henrique) and in France (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters).

From then on, Katia Guerreiro has recorded ten albums and has performed her fado in some of the most emblematic concert halls of the world, representing Portuguese music, poetry and soul: Berlin Philharmonic, Théatre de la Ville (Paris), Centre Culturel Tjibaou (New Caledonia), Théatre de La Sucrière (Marseille), Saikacho Sogo Fukushi Center (Nagasaki), Kokusai Forum (Tokyo), Mielparque Hall (Osaka), Ópera de Lyon, Reims Cathedral, Olympia de Paris, Palais Beaux-Arts (Brussels), Opéra de Vichy, Théatre Nacional Mohammed V (Rabat), Opéra de Rennes, Sala Sinfónica CCK (Buenos Aires), Teatro Nescafé de Las Artes (Santiago do Chile), Teatro Mayor (Bogotá), Gran Teatro Nacional (Lima), Ópera de Rouen Normandie | Chapelle Corneille, Opera House (Ankara).

And at some of the most important and representative festivals such as: Sacred Music Festival of Fez, Strictly Mundial (Marseille), Oslo World Music Festival, Festival Méditerranée (Marseille), Limoges Festival, Festival des Cathedrales (Amiens), Europa Musicale (Munich), Festa do Fado (Castelo São Jorge – Lisbon), Arts Alive Festival (Johannesburg), Festival Voix des Femmes (Tétouan), Festival Pirenéus Sur (Sallent de Gallego), Festival Dance and Music (Bangkok), SHOAC – Shanghai Spring Music, Le Printemps de Bourges – Le Palais Jacques Coeur, Festival Caixa Luanda, Festival Caixa Benguela, Festival de Fado Madrid, Fado Festival in Latin America.

Throughout her twenty-year career, Katia Guerreiro has also been asked to collaborate with some of the most representative musicians from other countries and musical genres such as Maria Bethânia, Amina Alaoui, Plácido Domingo, Rui Veloso, Martinho da Villa, Alcione, José Renato, Santos & Pecadores, Tiago Bettencourt, Mariza Liz, Miguel Gameiro, Rogério Charraz, Anselmo Ralph, Ensemble Basse Normandie, Husnu Selenderici, Chieko Kojima, Júlio Resende, Noidz, Orquestra Clássica do Sul, Metropolitan Orchestra of Lisbon, Maco Chinese Orchestra and Gulbenkian Orchestra, in addition to one of the most legendary names of Fado, Celeste Rodrigues.
