DEUSA (GODDESS) are a Lisbon band that debuts in early 2020 with the edition of the single “Canção” (“Song”), created by musicians and composers António Carvalhal on drums, Bernardo Cruz on piano and other keyboards, Henrique Carvalhal on guitar, João Afonso on voice and writing of the poems, and Pedro Jónatas on the bass.
Together or separately, the DEUSA musicians were part of groups like the Twin Peets, Primo Tirano, Electric Mindscapes or Plexus, having also contact in studio and live with names like Richie Campbell, Dillaz, ProfJam, Slow J, Papillon, Valas or Lhast, among others.
However, DEUSA cohabit in a sound universe of influences where the fusion, as a word and a meaning, connects funk and what can be called an alternative to the rock they grew up with – names like Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Nick Cave, as well as Radiohead, Alice in Chains, BadBadNotGood and traces of funk from the 60s and 70s.
